Blake Bortles Football Camp @ Police Athlete League, Ed Austin Park

WHO: The Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute (JOI) Foundation and the Blake Bortles Foundation partnered together to enable JaxPAL to provide this free-of-charge camp to not only children served by JaxPAL but also to youth in our community ages five to 16. Currently 500 children are pre-registered for the camp.

WHAT: The camp will provide youth a fun, safe and engaging day of learning skills like agility, proper stances, throwing techniques, catching techniques and much more. Bortles will be joined by outstanding local high school coaches, college coaches and other current and former NFL players to provide this free-of-charge camp. Registrants will be provided with lunch and a T-shirt.

WHEN: Saturday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Opening remarks will begin at approximately 9 a.m., Blake Bortles will be available for media interviews at approximately 9:15 a.m., any requests for interviews outside of this time need to be requested prior to the start of camp.

WHERE: The camp will be held at the Police Athletic League of Jacksonville (JaxPAL) football fields in Ed Austin Regional Park, located at 3450 Monument Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32225

Bow-Wow-Meow Luau Free Pet Adoptions @ Jacksonville Humane Society

 The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) is partnering with Animal Care and Protective Services (ACPS) to bring free pet adoptions to Jacksonville this weekend. The event, called “Bow-Wow-Meow Luau” is sponsored in-part by Best Friends Animal Society. Both JHS and ACPS are full and adoptions are needed to keep Jacksonville a no kill city.

“Bow-Wow-Meow Luau” is scheduled for Saturday, June 11th and Sunday, June 12th at both the JHS and ACPS shelter locations.  JHS is located at 8464 Beach Blvd. and ACPS is located at 2020 Forest Street in Jacksonville. The hours for this event are Saturday 10 am. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will feature hundreds of adoptable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens from both the Jacksonville Humane Society and Animal Care and Protective Services. Pet adoption fees are $0 and all pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. Adopters looking for small dogs, puppies and kittens are encouraged to arrive early. A $20 city license fee may apply.

“JHS is appreciative of the support from Best Friends Animal Society in helping us provide free adoptions and find loving families for the homeless animals in Jacksonville,” said Denise Deisler, executive director of the Jacksonville Humane Society.  “Both shelters are full at this time and adoptions are needed to help save lives.”
