Pastel Drawing Class @ Murray Hill Art Class

This is an ongoing class that meets every Friday for all artists levels. The class will focus on pastels, materials and techniques.

Students will work from a live model and still life setups on a rotating basis using various types of soft pastels and supports. Check our website for the recommended supply list.

The Vault @ 1930 welcomes nationally recognized painter and Jacksonville resident Mary St Germain!

Mary St. Germain is a painter who resides in Jacksonville, Florida. Her education was received from Louisiana State University with a concentration in Fine Arts. She is a member of Oil Painters of America, Landscape Artists International, and The National League of American Pen Woman. Mary’s work is in both private and public collections: University of North Florida~ Thomas G. Carpenter Library, Permanent Collection. Louisiana State Medical Center, Shreveport, LA. Baptist Hospital South, Jacksonville, Fl. Flagler Hospital, St. Augustine, Fl. United States Embassy, Tegucigalpa, Honduras. National Health Care Institute located in San Pablo area, Jacksonville, Florida.

Steampunk artist hosts reception at MOSH @ Museum of Science and History

Jim Smith, longtime art instructor at The Bolles School, will host a family-friendly event April
13 that will have Bolles School’s own Laurel Ripple playing the role of Martha Doyle Jennings, the (fictional) great-granddaughter of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, British writer of the Sherlock Holmes
series.
An “imagINvention” artist reception for Jim Smith’s Improbable Sci-Show, an unveiling of fictitious prototype devices, will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum of Science and History, 1025 Museum Circle. Smith, who has taught at Bolles since moving to Jacksonville from New York
City in 1977 to pursue a master’s degree at Jacksonville University, is considered a premier artist in steampunk art, which began as a literary genre in 1987 but has spread to fashion, music, games, movies (the 2009 “Sherlock Holmes” movie had steampunk touches) and to art. He has been an active participant in the art community, is a founding member of the Northeast Florida Sculptors Group, and has shown his art internationally in both Mexico and Europe.

Wine Down in the Parks

Enjoy a wine-filled evening of al fresco fun while supporting the continued maintenance, preservation and improvement of San Marco’s historic parks!

Experience the charm of Whatley, Davin and Balis Parks, three of San Marco’s favorite recreational destinations, on this magical evening filled with live music, tapas, craft beer, wine and cocktails from several of the neighborhood’s best bars and restaurants. Wine Down in the Parks is a Spring tradition residents and visitors alike look forward to every year.

The event runs from 4-7PM and will include a guided tour through three San Marco parks (an hour in each park), each showcasing a different influence on San Marco’s history. Themed music, food, and beverages will be included at each park. 

The event will be as local as possible by showcasing food, beverages, goods, and musicians all from either San Marco or nearby Jacksonville neighborhoods. 

 Tickets can be purchased at www.smpsjax.com/events. Discounted tickets are available for current-year SMPS members as well as junior patrons (all community members under 35).
