In the overwhelming quiet of the woods, six wildly disparate urbanites embark on a week-long silent retreat in search of life balance… but they soon find that staying quiet doesn’t necessarily bring inner peace. Under the eye of an unseen guru, these strangers confront internal demons both profound and absurd as their vows of silence collide with the achingly human need to connect. Filled with awkward and insightful humor, Small Mouth Sounds is a unique and compassionate new play that asks how we address life’s biggest questions when words fail us.
This acclaimed new comedy from Drama Desk Award–winning playwright Bess Wohl is a wickedly sharp look at mindfulness and the wellness industry. It teaches us that silence can indeed be golden… but also funny, frustrating, erotic, comforting, and profoundly passive-aggressive.
Tickets are $22 for online purchases and $25 at the door. Cash and credit card are accepted. A special pay-what-you-can performance will be held Monday, April 22 at 8 p.m. To learn more, visit The 5 & Dime’s new website at www.the5anddime.org.
