Hats of all shapes, colors and styles will adorn party-goers at the Ritz Chamber Players’ Inaugural Hat Luncheon on May 30, 2015. The Ritz Chamber Players, founded and based in Jacksonville, is an exceptional group of musicians who are African-American and hail from prestigious orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony and London Symphony. This is the first large event fundraiser being mounted by the nonprofit music group now in its thirteenth season.
The inaugural event is set for 11:30 a.m. on May 30, 2015, at the Garden Club of Jacksonville. Tickets are available at ritzchamberplayers.org. Single tickets are $75 and a table of eight is $600. The Hat Luncheon is being presented by Florida Blue with additional support from Bank of America, Kilwins, Nancy & Gary Chartrand and Monica & Bob Jacoby. New York Times best-selling author Mary Kay Andrews is coming to the Main Library, Tuesday, June 2, for a talk and book signing to promote her new novel, “Beach Town,” which will be released May 19. The general event, free and open to the public, will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room. A private meet and greet reception (ticketed event) sponsored by the Jacksonville Public Library Foundation will be at 5 p.m., prior to the public event in The Lounge at 303 North. While learning about the educational opportunities available to Jacksonville-area students at Virginia College, attendees are also invited to enjoy several activities for all ages and learn summer safety tips from local firefighters. This event is free and open to the public. Various planned activities will provide fun for the whole family including games, face painting, a bounce house and free summer treats including lemonade, popcorn, cotton candy, and sno-cones. Local firefighters will also be at the event giving summer safety tips to guests. Attendees will also be able to tour the campus, see demonstrations in all functional areas and receive information about programs offered.
