Epilepsy Foundation Annual Walk the Talk Fundraiser @ Jacksonville University

The Epilepsy Foundation of Florida (EFOF) will host Walk the Talk for Epilepsy at Jacksonville University (2800 University Blvd. N) on Saturday, April 9, 2016 to raise awareness and funds to benefit Floridians impacted by epilepsy. Registration will open at 8 a.m., with the walk following at 9 a.m.

The Jacksonville walk will feature family-friendly entertainment including a raffle, silent auction, DJ, photo booth, face-painting, henna, and bounce houses. Special appearances will be made by Miss Teen Jacksonville Joy Mayfield, First Coast News, the Jacksonville Jedi Academy, Miracle League of Jacksonville, and the Jacksonville Speech & Hearing Clinic. Sponsors for this year’s event include: PGA Tour, Lundbeck, UCB, Eisai, Cyberonics, Supernus, Upsher-Smith, Sunovion, and Southside Chiropractic Clinic.

Now through April 7, registration is $25 for adults and $15 for children (ages 12 and younger). Day-of race registration will be $35 for adults and $20 for children.

2nd Annual Hug a Survivor Festival @ Unity Plaza

The festival will take place at Unity Plaza, 220 Riverside Avenue, on Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Three hours of cancer awareness programming include art therapy and nutrition stations, a yoga session, games, a raffle, and more.

All proceeds benefit two local cancer charities: the First Coast Cancer Foundation—which assists local cancer patients with financial needs related to their treatment, and the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge initiative—which will provide free housing to out-of-town cancer patients who have traveled to Jacksonville to receive world-class treatment.

The San Marco Chamber Music Society is proud to announce the upcoming tour of Jacksonville and St Augustine by the Adderbury Ensemble of Oxford, England. This tour is the first of two segments of a cultural exchange between our two cities. In June, our own San Marco Chamber Music Society will perform 4 concerts in and around Oxford, England.  The Adderbury Ensemble is one of England’s premier chamber music groups and  will be performing at five venues in Jacksonville and St Augustine between April 7th and April 11th, so mark your calendars and plan to attend these free concerts. The ensemble will present music of Mozart, Delius, Vaughan Williams, Mendelssohn, and Brahms.

Jacksonville University 2016 Faculty & Student Symposium @ JU Davis College of Business

Jacksonville University’s 2016 Faculty & Student Symposium – Tuesday – Thursday, April 12-14, features more than 134 projects, with topics including Crew Resource Management; Feminine Modernism; The Presidential Election and Its Effect on Stock Market Behavior; Nature of Art; Exercise is Medicine; and the Effectiveness of Family Member Presence During Resuscitation.
The free symposium (@JUSymposium and #JUSymp2016), which runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day in the JU Davis College of Business Conference Rooms B and C, spotlights the excellence of JU students and faculty who engage in cutting-edge research in intriguing topics across a range of disciplines (see a .pdf of the full schedule here).
Students and the community can stop by DCOB any time during the event and learn about JU’s exciting research, teaching, service, study abroad and internships, said Dr. Brian Lane, Chair of the Symposium Committee.

JU President Tim Cost and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Wenying Xu will offer remarks Tuesday at 12 noon and the Undergraduate Research Fund awards will be announced by Dr. Lee Ann Clements, Thursday at 12:15pm.
