We’ll explore some of the trails of this 120-acre nature preserve in urban Jacksonville, just off Monument Road, looking for resident birds; including Barred Owl, Prothonotary Warbler, Great-crested Flycatcher, Black-and-White warbler, and White and Red-eyed Vireos. Come prepared for easy to moderate trails (sturdy shoes or sneakers). We have there a few pairs of binoculars to borrow if you don’t own your own. Leader: Inez Whipple (484-769-3816).

The Ixia Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society will hold its monthly General Meeting on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at the Regency Square Library. The meeting is open to the public and will begin at 6:30 PM with the presentation “Belonging to the Universe”. This short TEDx.Jacksonville video features Warren Anderson, active in many local environmental protection agencies, and implores us to restore the early link to nature that we enjoyed as children in the great outdoors.
The presentation will be followed by a mystery plant identification featuring Ixia members Jake Ingram, a retired landscape architect and James Loper, owner of Reflections of Nature Nursery in Fernandina. Attendees are invited to bring unidentified plant leaves, including flowers when possible, and let Jake and James classify and recommend how to care for it.
