The Jax Harmony Chorus, a Sweet Adelines group, rehearses every Tuesday at 7 p.m. Open houses are held every 4th Tuesday but you are welcome any time! As a member of the chorus, you will belong to a worldwide family of friends who value the joy of singing chord-ringing, fun-filled harmony.

Have you heard about the inventor of Kevlar? How about the first computer programmer? Or the person who discovered the structure of DNA? They all were women. Learn about these and other pioneering women when you play a few rounds of a not-so-trivial game of women’s history facts. This program is for teens ages 13 – 18.

Springfield Preservation and Revitalization Council (SPAR) is pleased to announce their spring music series, Music on Main, will be taking place this March in Sesquicentennial Park (1527 N. Main Street).

The event will include food trucks, live music, beer and wine, and will be free and open to the public. The park will open on each event date at 5 p.m., and music will be featured from 6-8 p.m. The March 6 event will also serve as the grand opening of Sesquicentennial Park.

Sesquicentennial Park is a temporary pocket park on Main Street, created by SPAR in celebration of 150 years of the Springfield neighborhood. The park is centered around a century-old live oak tree, will be semi-enclosed with picket fencing and feature a stage.

This program is for children birth to 5 years with an adult caregiver. The program includes stories, books, fingerplays, nursery rhymes, and songs that promote language development, vocabulary building, and comprehension. 

All programs are free and open to the public.

Join the Museum every Tuesday and Thursday for a guided tour of the historic Cummer Gardens, beginning in the Museum lobby.

Beginning Thursday, January 10th, join us every Tuesday and Thursday at 11:30 a.m. for a fast-paced 30-minute walk in downtown Jacksonville, led by Friends of Hemming Park staff. We will meet near the “Opposing Forces” sculpture in Hemming Park at the corner of  Monroe and Laura Streets. Our route will change daily, and we will visit a variety of Jacksonville landmarks during this fun, free, twice-weekly event. For more information, email [email protected]

In this school-age program, participants will run a relay race while they answer questions about famous women in history.  They will learn about famous women inventors, and get a chance to have build their own invention.
