The Chancel choir of Ortega United Methodist Church will present the Lenten cantata, In My Place, on Sunday, March 13 at 10 a.m. . This cantata, accompanied by Charlie Mann, pianist, and an orchestra comprised of members of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, makes use of the nail as a tactile and audible symbol of our sins for which Christ was crucified. Upon entering the sanctuary, each worshiper will be given a nail which they will hold during the cantata and deposit in a metal pail as they silently exit the sanctuary at the conclusion of the cantata.
One-day-only event on the city’s biggest outdoor stage features six national Indie Folk acts, talented artisans, local food and eats, the popular Crafternoon, a Natural Life sample sale and much more. Benefits Children’s Home Society of Florida.

Born in Australia, Sam Haywood was a finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition at the age of 13. Awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Julius Isserlis prize, he moved to Vienna to study with Paul Badura-Skoda. He has since performed in major venues around the world and has made several recordings, including one using Chopin’s own Pleyel piano. As a chamber musician, his partners have included Joshua Bell and Steven Isserlis, with whom he is featured on the Musical Gifts album. Mr. Haywood is also a composer and artistic director of London’s Solent Music Festival.

The children’s choirs of Ortega United Methodist Church will present the children’s Easter musical, Happy Day, on Wednesday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m. This musical, under the direction of Children’s Choir Coordinator, Gwen Smith, tells of the joy of Easter and the resurrection of our Lord. Happy Day will be presented in the Fellowship Hall in the setting of a Dinner Theatre. Serving of the meal will begin at 5:45 p.m.
