The largest art mosaic in Jacksonville to date, the Sugar Hill Mosaic is located under the I-95 overpass near Davis Street along the S-Line Rail Trail. It was commissioned by Groundwork Jacksonville and created by RouxArts to honor the past, present and future of the historic Sugar Hill Neighborhood, once the center of African-American prosperity in Northeast Florida.
The program will include a historical narrative about Sugar Hill, remarks from local dignitaries and light refreshments. Ample parking is available at Christ Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. The event is free and open to the public.
An estimated 41,000 individual tile pieces were used to create the public art mosaic, design by Kate and Kenny Rouh of RouxArt.
