Free Concert: The prize-winning Vega Quartet will perform Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 77, #1 – the one who invented the string quartet; Leos Janacek’s Quartet #2 titled the “Kreutzer Sonata” – first a Beethoven violin sonata, then Tolstoy’s novelette about a tragic love triangle and the finale is Felix Mendelssohn’s thrilling Quartet Op. 44, #1 – filled with fleeting notes, beautiful melodies and rich textures. The first graduating class celebrates many of those firsts with a 50 year reunion June 24 and 25. The festivities begin Friday at Unity Plaza, 220 Riverside Avenue from 7-10 p.m. with a cash bar and snacks. Saturday night there will be a buffet dinner, dancing and cash bar at The Lexington Hotel from 7 –11 p.m. Costs per person are $10 Friday and $68 on Saturday.
